I'm Matthew Congdon, a freelance front-end web developer based in London. I am proficient using HTML and CSS to build websites, and implementing other langauges and common web development plug-ins such as JavaScript, JQuery and Bootstrap for interactivity and functionality. My current learning focus is on other front-end frameworks and languages, such as Angular, Ember, SASS etc alongside an introduction into back-end languages with PHP and MYSQL.

I'm currently working in a freelance capacity, building websites for local businesses and individuals while looking for work full-time, and always looking to improve my skills. Please go to 'Misc Websites' on the 'My Work' page to see my latest work, alongside other projects.

Education/Training

Kensington and Chelsea College: Web Design with Dreamweaver, BTEC Level 1 + 2 (September 2013- June 2014) Grade : Distinction

These were two separate courses, for BTEC level 1 and 2 qualifications respectively. The courses covered the use of Adobe Dreamweaver as a web authoring tool, while extensively covering the HTML and CSS markup languages, giving me a strong grounding in both. I also was taught how to use Adobe Photoshop in relation to web design, designing website layouts, small logos and graphics that could later be transferred into Dreamweaver when the design was being built.

The final projects for both qualifications were to design a website for a fictional client (for level 1, a fictional cupcake shop, and for level 2, a re-design of the Kensington and Chelsea College website). Both of these projects used all the skills I was taught on the course, with having to create multiple website layouts and designs for the client, and then to build the selected design into Dreamweaver. I was also shown the basics of Wordpress, and I created a website with my own content, modifying a WordPress website template.

Training Dragon (August 2013, September 2013, July 2014, September 2014)

These were short, intense courses designed to cover a lot of material in four, full-day sessions which I completed alongside my college education. I have currently completed four courses:

  • HTML and CSS: Covered using HTML and CSS in web development.
  • Javascript and JQuery: Covered using JavaScript and JQuery in adding interactive elements to web pages.
  • PHP and MySQL: Covered using PHP and MySQL in adding server-side functionality to websites.
  • HTML5 and CSS3: Covered the new features and elements offered by HTML5 and CSS3.

These courses were all practical, through following the lecturer and completing exercises, so I have a strong understanding of these languages and how to use them when building websites.
